If the pages are in .php or .asp extensions they wont harm your ranking. Spiders find very difficult to crawl by link having querystrings e.g., "test.asp?param1=yes&param2=no", such url might get dropped by spiders for crawling. It is better to create straightforward .php or Asp links.

^top^

Yes, it does matter. Put your keyword in your filename which will give little push in ranking. The filename should also be no longer then 15-20 characters. PageRank™ is actually a trademarked term. The trademark belongs to Google Inc. and refers to the "rank" of a website as determined by Google's ranking system. Page Rank is a grade given to a webpage determining the importance in Google's sense. If you have a high rank website, your chances are higher to come on first position as high page rank boost your search result. Page rank is calculated by the inbound link the page is getting.

^top^

13. What are "Inbound links"?

Inbound links are nothing more than links coming to a given website from an external website.
For example, any links on this website to Google.com are considered to be Inbound links to Google.

^top^

14. How can I find how many inbound links I have?

In reality there is no real way to calculate the exact number of inbound links in. The best way to find inbound links to your website is to use either Google or AllTheWeb / FAST. With Google, it is possible to search for inbound links by using the search query "link:www.example.com", this will search for all links to the site www.example.com. On AllTheWeb, you can check for inbound links to a site by using "link.all:www.example.com".

^top^

15. How important are inbound links?

Over the past 2 years or so, search engines have placed a lot of importance on inbound links. Inbound links are a good way to judge the popularity of a website i.e. the more inbound links a website has, the more important it is considered to be. Many people use words that describe a website in order to link to it, so the words used to the link have become very important. Ideally, all of the inbound links to your website should use your target keywords as the link text.

^top^

16. How can I tell if my site has been banned?

There is no real way to tell if your site has been banned from a search engine. If your site was listed and then suddenly disappears, it might be reasonable to assume the site was banned. Normally only sites that engage in some kind of spamming or poor practices get banned.
For example, if you have used hidden text, URL cloaking, or been part of a link farm, then it is possible your site would have been banned. There is not usually a way to get re-indexed once a site is banned.

^top^

17. What is "Cloaking"?

Some sites have decided to cheat the search engines and deliver optimized content to the search spiders yet deliver different content to regular users. This is usually done when the site wants to use frames, Java, flash or some other such media that would be difficult for search engines to read. The page is said to be "Cloaked" whenever this optimized content is delivered to search engines.

^top^

18. Does PageRank™ effect my rankings in Google?

In short, yes PageRank does effect how your website ranks in Google. The PageRank™ system was designed to be yet another factor in how pages should ranks, it is not the only thing that matters however. When you do a search at Google, the highest PR websites are not always placed at the top. Sometimes a page with a lower PR can outrank a higher PR website if it is better optimized for the search terms.

^top^

19. What are "doorway pages" and should I use them?

Doorway pages are nothing more then pages full of spam text which are supposed to be optimized for search engines. Some times there are hundreds of doorway pages hosted on external servers, at different domains etc.. These doorway pages have links to the main websites. The theory is that if these doorway pages rank highly in search engines and visitors use them, they will eventually be taken to the main websites.

^top^

20. What is unethical SEO?

Unethical SEO is a term that is used to describe search engine optimizers, or the optimization of a website which uses any form of spamming or tricks in order to falsely improve rankings.
For example, the use of hidden text or doorway pages as mentioned above would be considered unethical search engine optimization.

^top^

21. Can I use JavaScript on my website?

Given that JavaScript is a somewhat dynamic programming language i.e. it can require human interaction, or it can cause things to change, it is not readable by most of the search engines. Although it is a somewhat simple language, it has proven too difficult to parse. Any text or link in JavaScript may be missed by search engines. Only use JavaScript where it is urgently required.

^top^

22. Is it OK to use Flash?

As with JavaScript, it is too difficult to parse. Some sites use Flash introductions with a skip button. Page with flash intros greatly reduce their rankings and are encouraged to stop using intros. Sites that use Flash for navigation's and interaction etc.. are encouraged to use HTML navigation instead and HTML text where possible.

23. What can Virtual Splat do for my business?

Virtual Splat guarantees that your website will have top placement in the search engines and directories we submit to. We do this by first optimizing your web site for search engine positioning thus making your web site "search engine friendly". A vast majority of web sites on the Internet may look good on the outside but are very poorly designed for great search engine ranking. We ensure that your site is utilizing all of the latest methods and technology according to the specific rules for each individual search engine or directory. We focus on specific keywords, keyword phrases and even individual search engines and directories themselves.

In short, we will help your business obtain top rankings in the most popular search engines and directories on the Internet.

^top^

24. How many search engines & directories does Virtual Splat submit to?

We focus on 15 top search engines and directories but submit to 400+. We say "+" because we actually submit to about 500 but sometimes not all submissions are accepted. We keep the total number to around 400 because many minor search engines are "here today and gone tomorrow." Those programs out there that say they will submit your site to 1000's of search engines are usually useless because a lot of those 1000's of engines are merely email collection databases set up for spamming. We submit to 400+ to stay competitive with other offers out there but really focus on the top 15 because this is where 95% of your search engine traffic will come from.

^top^

25. Do you manually submit to search engines or do you use automated software?

We feel it is very important to manually submit your site to the top 15 search engines and directories and rely on advanced software to submit to the rest. Many of the top search engines refuse submission from software programs all together which is why we choose to manually submit. Besides this, the five top directories - Yahoo, Looksmart, Snap.com, The Go Guides and The Open Directory Project require that categories be selected within their structure before a site is submitted. No automated program can do that.

^top^

26. Can I achieve similar results on my own?

It is possible to achieve good rankings on your own, but without a proven technique, HTML expertise, continual knowledge of search engine rules and regulations and lots of time, your chances of achieving recurring and consistent rankings above your competitors is almost impossible. Our main focus is to achieve high search engine rankings for clients. We are professionals dedicated to the research, technology and innovation required to stay on the cutting edge of search engine trends.

^top^

27. Why is search engine positioning pivotal to success in this market?

More than 85% percent of all Internet users go directly to search engines immediately upon accessing the Internet to find what they are looking for. Therefore you cannot afford to be ranked anywhere but on the first page. In addition, most Internet users do not venture beyond the first page of a search, so, unless you are being found there, your chances of drawing those Internet users to your site are very unlikely.

Even if you spend thousands of dollars on keyword banner buys, site sponsorships, click through advertising and the like, you need good search engine rankings first and foremost! The current industry standard on banner click-thrus is at about 0.5%. The highest we have ever seen is 35% which is very rare. Therefore if 1 out of 200 clicks on the banner, where do the other 199 look?

^top^

28. What if I have more than one web site?

Each site is treated as an individual project having its own design and set up, submission process and reporting.

^Top^

29. How does Virtual Splat keep up with what search engines are looking for?

Virtual Splat is comprised of professionals dedicated to the research, technology and innovation required to stay on the cutting edge of search engine trends. We are constantly studying each search engine's rules, regulations, behavior and process timing.

^Top^

30. How long will my company's web site stay at the top of the major search engines?

Virtual Splat will ensure that your company's web site stays at the top of the major search engines for the duration of your contract with us. Because search engine positioning requires continuous effort, we cannot guarantee that you will retain top rankings once you cancel your service with us.

^Top^

31. What are the keyword and description guidelines?

All keywords submitted must be relevant to the content on your site. Words not relevant to your site will be disregarded and must be replaced. Descriptions 20 words or less that describe your web sites content, products, or services are most effective. Slogans, or phrases like "guaranteed overnight delivery" are not recommended.

^Top^

32. How soon after my site is optimized will I see results?

It depends on your current status with search engines and web directories. If your site is already being indexed by search engines, you could see results within a matter of weeks.

If your site is not yet listed by the major search engines and / or web directories, success will likely take longer (think months) while we wait for your site to be indexed.

You can speed this process up by paying the search engines to index your site faster click on the link for more information - Paid Inclusion

33. Why should I hire High Rankers if you won't promise that my site will be listed at the top of the search engine results?

SEO (search engine optimization) companies that guarantee to put your site in the No. 1 position usually try to accomplish that in one of these ways:

1. They don't tell you the search term you'll be ranked No. 1 for, which may be only tenuously relevant to your company. Then after they're done they brag about having your site listed No. 1 on a search for YOUR COMPANY NAME!

2. They use a number of tricks or gimmicks that are nothing more than an attempt to fool the search engines. These tricks may bring about short-term results, but in the end the search engines are always smarter and often ban these sites permanently when the tricks are discovered (and they eventually will be discovered, usually by your competitor who will report you to the search engine).

Even though our promises don't include a No. 1 ranking for your web site, we do have a proven track record of search engine success which includes hundreds of No. 1 rankings.

^Top^

34. What are the search engine optimization risks I keep hearing about?

Search engines view certain optimization techniques as an attempt to subvert their databases and as a result penalize the offending pages accordingly. We do not use any techniques that may result in harm to your rankings: all our techniques are considered legitimate and are meticulously researched before introduction to any client website. Please read our methodology section for details.

^Top^

35. I found other services that do what you do much more cheaply: how do I choose?

Some companies take advantage of the uninitiated website owner promising top rankings for £9.95 or something similar. Beware of such promises - if it sounds too good to be true, it usually is. That £9.95 will typically buy an automated submission to 10,000 "engines" that nobody ever visits or possibly even result in a domain ban for oversubmitting. Once the £9.95 campaign is finished, so is your domain. There is no such thing as #1 rankings in all search engines or "it only takes 2 weeks and £9.95".

^top^

36. We are already listed in all the search engines, but we're not satisfied with our ranking. Can you help us? Do we need to resubmit our site?

Yes, VIRTUAL SPLAT can probably help you, and NO, you probably don't need to resubmit your site. (If you're not listed in the popular web directories, submission there is a must after you've optimized your web site.)

If you're already listed in search engines, you should consider our Website Review and Report as a first step toward improving your visibility in search engines. Beyond that, most (if not all) of our other optimization services may be able to improve your website and, in the process, improve your website's position in search engines.

All this is very confusing and I still have some questions about your services.

You are invited to contact us with your concerns before, during and after the campaign. Clients always get priority handling: we are here to help you get better rankings and understand what we do. Click here for help in getting top search engine rankings.

37. Can anyone guarantee a number one listing for a search phrase?

No. There are some very talented individuals in this field, but none that can guarantee winning for HIGHLY COMPETITIVE PHRASES such as those in the travel industry. If you meet anyone who claims to have a “special relationship” with the search engines keep one hand on your wallet. If you ever believe them, I have a beautiful bridge in Brooklyn that I would like to sell you. Don’t get taken for a ride. Get references, and examples of past work. As with anything, research before you purchase, and don’t get sucked in by hype.

^Top^

38. What is the best way to perform search engine optimization on my site?

The best search engine optimization technique is to provide your users with the information that they are looking for. High quality informational content is the best way to attract and retain visitors. Building your site according to the standards that have been set by the W3C is one of the best ways to ensure good search engine traffic. H1 tags (heading tags), titles, and link text (the words you use when describing links) are three of the most important aspects to earning high SE positions at the current time. These criteria, however, may change and the best way to keep your site high in your rankings is to adhere to general "good coding" standards. 39. I thought spam was only in a can and in my e-mail box…how can it be on a website?

Spam has gained a very loosely defined meaning these days.

Top^

40. Would I do it if the search engines didn't exist?

If the answer is yes… you are probably not spamming. If the answer is no, then you had better be careful in your approach.

^Top^

41. Would the technique being used pass human inspection?

Spam is the biggest enemy of the search engines. They hate it more than you hate receiving naked pictures and penis pill offers in your e-mailbox.

The 3rd and best definition given for spam is:

Anything that is not relevant to the user. Remember, you don’t like it… so don’t do it. Hopefully, one day, spammers will be publicly flogged, and you really don’t want that.

^Top^

42. I see lots of sites beating me with several tricks… Why shouldn't I try these?

There are two types of SEO these days. Those who are in it for the short run for ultra-competitive phrases who use spam techniques, and those who would like to obtain high volumes of RELEVANT, SUSTAINED traffic over a long period of time. M4C falls into the latter group. We pride ourselves on using only ethical “organic” search engine optimization techniques. M4C would rather attain long-term results than short-term results that may result in penalization from the search engines. Sites that optimize according to the latest SEO “tricks” and fads usually find themselves at the bottom of the results after someone turns in a report on them or the engines rewrite their criteria to penalize such tricks.

^Top^

43. Why do search engines penalize websites?

The purpose of a search engine is to provide relevant information to their users. The engines are constantly battling spammers to keep their results relevant and spam-free. It is similar to a game cops and robbers. The robbers (spammers) devise new techniques, and a bunch of them jump on board and make out like bandits for a while. Sooner, or later, however, the cops (search engines) catch on and the bandits are stuck behind steel bars awaiting parole (reinstatement). Those that abide by the rules, and don’t test the limits until they are established make out the best in the end. Stick with proven techniques that work, and you will not be banned.

^Top^

44. If I were to optimize my own website, what would it take?

Assuming you already have moderate to advanced knowledge of HTML, CGI scripting and Server Side Programming, expect to invest at least 12 months of research and trials. Once you acquire the necessary search engine optimization knowledge, set aside approximately 30 hours per week to keep abreast of developments in the industry. Or you can hire us to save yourself a lot of valuable time and concentrate on your business
