VIRTUAL SPLAT HELPS YOUR WEBSITE TO ATTRACT AND RETAIN TO VISITORS
Web site optimization is vital to get your site high in the search engines. There are certain critical elements that will help you to do this. Your website needs to be optimized so visitors will find it, visit it, stay on it, explore it, and return to it.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF WEB SITE OPTIMIZATION?

  • Improve your web page position
  • Boost visibility in search engine rankings
  • Generate web site traffic

SOME IMPORTANT KEY POINTS, WHILE BUILDING YOUR WEBSITE:

  • Your page must load quickly, in about 10 - 20 seconds.
  • Do not put many graphics or banners on your site.
  • Any graphics, including background, must be compressed for file size (10,000 bytes or less each). (See the graphics compressor programs below).
  • The purpose of the site must be clear and stated up front.
  • Clear paths to other pages must be obvious.
  • Figure out the best keywords for your site – ones people will do a search for.
  • Make your page keyword-rich without "spamming" tricks.
  • Your site should contain no broken links (links that don't connect to a site).
  • Your links should go where expected.
  • Link to the other pages of your site "web" - make it easy to find anything at your site.

It is extremely important to know what search engines don't want. Otherwise, your perfectly optimized site may not be indexed -- and could even be blacklisted. Therefore, when you learn about factors that influence search engine rankings, you should also learn which tactics to avoid.

Recently, some engines started to index dynamic content. However, most search engines are still unable to index multimedia and dynamic pages, and those that are, don't index all of them.

HERE IS A LIST OF FILES THAT SEARCH ENGINES DON'T INDEX:
  • Text in graphics (use ALT tags).
  • Pages that require registration, cookies or passwords.
  • XML.
  • Java applets.
  • Acrobat files (PDF), except Google.
  • Dynamic content (URLs with "?" in them), except Google, Altavista, FAST and Inktomi.
  • Multimedia files (Shockwave, streaming video).
  • To see what kind of dynamic content is indexed by various search engines, check out our subscriber section.
  • Workaround pages.
  • If your site consists largely of files that search engines don't index, create workaround pages. Workaround pages should contain the most important information about your products or services. Workaround pages should be optimized just like doorway pages. For our article on doorway pages, click here.
Search engines will index workaround pages even if they can't index the rest of a site. Always link to these pages from your site map to make sure search engines spider them, and submit workaround pages rather than non-optimized pages.

AN OVERVIEW:

MISTAKES:-
  • Don't use spam or frames.
  • Create workaround pages for dynamic and framed sites
Every search engine has its own preferences for page optimization and submission. For the most comprehensive, up-to-date guide to the major engines and directories.
